SOUND OF THE DAY

4 "sh" activities below

sh - Coloring Sheet
A basic coloring sheet which helps children become familiar with the digraph sound "sh" - Sharing Sherry.  This is a good place to start after introducing the "sh" Sharing Sherry sound.  Click the image at left to bring up this worksheet for printing in HTML format.  Pass out to students and have them "color-away."

sh - Classroom Activity
This "sh" Activity Sheet is cleverly designed to generate heightened concentration to help memorize the difficult (and very important) "sh" sound.  Unlike the coloring sheet above, the letters "sh" are placed on each of the wooden blocks in the picture.  "Shang" (the boy building the block tower) only wants to use blocks which have the letters "sh" printed on the side.  Some blocks have "hs" - "ss" - "ch" or even the letters backwards.  Sherry needs the help of your students by coloring all the "sh" blocks blue and the other blocks either red - yellow or orange.  This is a highly motivational activity since children love to see if they were "smart enough" to find the correct and incorrect letters.  After completion, go over the activity together as a class and you'll be impressed with the enthusiasm.  Click the image for a quick loading HTML version.  This worksheet provides a solid 20 minutes of quality student work.

Cut-Outs
3 sounds on one 8x11 paper. Letters are large enough to easily be seen 30 feet across the room.  Print 2 or more copies - cut out the words and place around the classroom, hallways, on your Word of the Day hat -  anywhere that can attract attention.  Choose either Word or PDF format for downloading.

Oversize Teaching Letters
Sharing Sherry will help your student(s) remember this important (and tricky) digraph sound - "sh."  The letters are formatted with one ten inch letter per 8x11 page.  By associating the "sh" sound with Sharing Sherry, we not only begin teaching an important social skill, but visual graphics such as this can greatly speed the rate at which a child memorizes new information.  The letters should be taped onto the classroom board - wall - or to a special Word of the Day stand for daily teaching and reminding.
