These lists show the precise reading
vocabulary
your student(s) should be learning
throughout the school year in order to maintain "true" grade level progress.
Our
15+ years of research has shown
when a student can fluently read the words
in any of our grade level lists -
then he/she will typically score in the
top 10% on any national
reading test for that grade level !!
This is possible because the research
(and common sense) clearly shows that
Vocabulary + Fluency = Maximum Comprehension
Each vocabulary list has been carefully researched to
contain words
which occur in average reading material for that
particular grade
as well as words which appear on grade level standardized tests.
Words are organized into 36 weekly groups from "most-common" to "least-common."
This gives you the perfect order for instruction for the entire year.
The approximate number of words in each
list are as follows:
Grade 1 - 340 Words
Grade 2 - 750 words
Grade 3 - 800 Words
Grade 4 - 700 Words
Grade 5 - 600 Words
Choose either the Microsoft Word (blue) or Adobe Acrobat (red) link below
to
begin downloading.
Files range in size from one-third to a little over one megabyte.
This is
about
a 2-5 minute download if you have a conventional 56K modem.
If you are unable to open a word list properly it is because you do not
have
Microsoft Word 97 or newer - or Adobe Acrobat 4.0 (3.0 does not work),
If you need a free viewer to open these files
then go to our VIEWERS

Developing extra grade level
activities The words in each vocabulary list
were chosen after intensive computer analysis of grade level text books
including literature, history, geography, science and math. Several criteria were used for identifying which vocabulary to place in a grade level list. The most important criteria was "Frequency of Use" in average reading material. This means that words in the Grade 1 list occur more often in reading material than words found in the Grade 2 List - and words in the Grade 2 List are more common than words found in the Grade 3 List, etc. Downloading the Microsoft Word Version requires Microsoft
Word installed on your computer or the "free" Word Viewer
below.
