vocabulary
your student(s) should know
by the end of the school year to remain on course.
15+ years of research has shown
when a student can read the words
in any of our grade level lists -
then he/she will typically score in the
top 10% on any national
reading test for that grade level !!
This is possible because the research
clearly shows that
Vocabulary + Fluency = Comprehension
Each vocabulary list has been carefully researched to
contain words
which occur in average reading material for that
particular grade
as well as words which appear on grade level standardized tests.
Words are organized into 36 weekly groups from "most-common" to "least-common."
This gives you the perfect order for instruction for the entire year.
The approximate number of words in each
list are as follows:
Grade 1 - 340 Words
Grade 2 - 800 words
Grade 3 - 800 Words
Grade 4 - 800 Words

Grade Level Vocabulary Lists provide valuable support for any reading program by clarifying exactly which words a student needs to learn to stay "on" or "above" grade level. Vocabulary Lists are extremely helpful for a wide range of uses: Developing extra grade level
activities Each vocabulary list has been carefully researched to contain words which must be memorized for that particular grade level. Over 10 years of research has shown that students who can fluently read the words in any grade level list typically score in the top 10% on national standardized reading tests. Several criteria were used for identifying which vocabulary to place in a grade level list. The most important criteria was "Frequency of Use" in average reading material. This means that words in the Grade 1 list occur more often in reading material than words found in the Grade 2 List - and words in the Grade 2 List are more common than words found in the Grade 3 List, etc. The total number of words listed in a particular list is based upon the Downloading the Word Version requires either Microsoft
